Agnostic
This term, based on the Greek for “not knowing”, was coined by T H Huxley (1825-1895) for the principle of rejecting all metaphysical speculation and religious doctrine on the ground that it is impossible to know whether or not there is a God. It has now become a very broad term, and even some religious people would describe themselves as agnostics in the sense that they realise their beliefs cannot be proved, and are reluctant to formulate them in a dogmatic way.
Agnostics are not organised as a group, though some would belong to humanist organisations.
